About

I’m spending the final six weeks of the 2012 election volunteering for Barack Obama.

I quit my desk job in New York City and traveled 1023 miles west to Des Moines, Iowa, where I’m working hard to help President Obama capture the six electoral votes up for grabs here.

My fiancee Ruth has been working as an organizer in Beaverdale, a neighborhood in West Des Moines, for the campaign since June. We got engaged in Des Moines when I visited for the 4th of July.

Ruth is a black woman and I am a white man. Only a generation ago, we wouldn’t have been able to get married because we have different skin colors. I’m at work on this campaign because I think nobody should be blocked from getting married because of who they love or how they love.

We bought a 1987 Dodge 600 for $500 on Craigslist and we use it to campaign Des Moines – knocking on doors, giving rides to volunteers who don’t drive, and ferrying campaign supplies around.

I’m documenting life on the campaign trail from this blog. A recovering member of the Eastern Media Elite, I have written for Dow Jones Newswires and The Wall Street Journal.

Although I’m an ardent supporter and a volunteer, I am in no way, shape or form affiliated with the campaign. The views expressed here are my own.
